Environmentalism
Overview
Nature is such an abundant resource available to everyone with the resources to access it. As society progresses I believe we should increase our awareness of the interconnection between individuals, communities, and the environment.
My vision for the future is to implement a conscious infrastructure that has a purpose derived from nature. Sustainability at an individual and community level is pertinent to making an impact on the environment and improving the well-being of all its constituents. Our community has so much creativity waiting to be expressed and giving everyone a voice in deciding where resources go will hopefully further the connection between nature and humanity.
Ecocentrism
The current mindset for our connection to nature is anthropocentric and puts us at the top of the hierarchy, this is represented by the ego model. Ecocentrism acknowledges that there are other aspects of nature we must consider to live in harmony. The seva model takes the ecocentric model and furthers the idea by putting the environment above humanity.
I think it is valuable to reconsider our placement in the interconnectedness of nature and our impact. We should be continuously asking, how could we make living more sustainable? And what will we leave behind?
I have been making efforts to contribute to environmental activism and actively volunteer for San Diego 350 which is building a movement to prevent the worst impacts of climate change and climate injustice through education and outreach, public policy advocacy, and mobilizing people to take action.
As I continue I am doing my best to inform and enact an environment-centered perspective.
